Quick Moulin Rouge review. I had no reason to see this. My friend Elizabeth (who is currently in FB Jail for being honest) wanted to go and we always have fun together so off we go.

Walking into the seating at the Orpheum with the set lit up like a million fire works was energizing and exciting. Like holy crap, buckle in for the ride kind of exciting. I know nothing about the story since I had to turn off the movie, the quick cuts was giving me whiplash and left me wondering what the hell was going on.

Before the show even started the cast appeared on stage to tease us with what’s to come. It was a nice way to get going. And then the ride began. I was literally, (literally) on the edge of my seat. Not because of the great acting, not the amazing freaking singing or the unbelievable music choices (it’s a menagerie of every song from your time on earth in bits and pieces telling the story.. omg fucking brilliant) I was on the edge of my seat and in freakin tears over the goddamn set and set changes. I lost my mind. I was rethinking my whole career. To create such amazing insanity.. to take me on a ride like that… fer fucks sake…

And who do I run into at intermission? None other than Ady freakin Abbot! We geeked the hell out at intermission. Her mom was a voice teacher so it was awesome to hear her point of views on these singing voices. The absolutely brilliant MC in the show, Harold played by Austin Durant was worth the price of admission. Goddamn he was the guy through and through. And the lead, Christian played by Conor Ryan… Worth the price of admission. This guy was made for this role, this guy is this role.. there is no other.

I liken this show to being in a candy store and getting to eat one delicious treat after another with no belly aches and nothing added to the hips. One delicious treat after another, throw this in, throw that in, what more could they add? They added it.. they kept adding to it. By the end I needed a cigarette and a nap. If you like over the top production numbers.. this is the show for you.

OH!! And the orchestra.. THE FREAKING ORCHESTRA was insane. I mean.. flawlessly rocking the hell out of everyone. How they could play the variety of music that flew across that stage… No compare!!

oh and… (haha .. so many thoughts) I love sitting front row. I want to see the sweat on brows but I highly recommend backing the hell up for this one. Any seat where you can really take in the full stage is the way to go.

(I’d have gotten more pics but they are rabid about no pics. They carry a big paddle that says no pics and I wondered if they put it on a paddle purposefully)
